Hong Kong, Asia
Winter 2012 - One thing Dee and Noble Dre* Ali like to do when traveling is make use of any layovers, especially when the location is one they haven’t yet travelled to. This was how they came to Hong Kong; as a layover to Thailand. One of the joys of Hong Kong is the choice of islands to visit by ferry. Lantau Island is visited to see Tian Tan Buddha. Here you can really appreciate the masterpiece and learn more about the history of Buddha.
Tian Tan Buddha
People from all over come to see one of the largest seated Buddhas in the world!
Up Close
The statue is 34 meters tall. This is equivalent to 111 feet. It was completed in 1993 and if you can make the time, add this to your Hong Kong adventure!

Cable car fun
You can opt to hike up to the temple sights or cable car. Cable car is of course quicker but also so beautiful and a great way to see more of the country.
Cable Car Love
Traveling with the one you love is a special kind of experience. Pay extra fee for a glass cable car and bring your camera for the great views.
The Twelve Divine Generals
These protective deities correspond to the animals in the Chinese zodiac. Each has his own personality, time of day, weapon and a creature on his head. This is the General Indra which represents 9 – 11 AM and the snake of the Zodiac. He is armed with a staff.

The Twelve Divine Generals
General Anila represents 1-3 PM and the sheep of the Zodiac. He is armed with a arrow.
Goddess Statues
So many to see and the detail is mind blowing.

A Sight To See!
So much beauty here
Monastery
Eat lunch here and chill among the locals. It’s such a REAL experience. Food is a great way to explore a new culture. Your taste buds help to open new synapses for your mind, body and spirit.

Temples!
Beautiful temples to be explored all around here in Hong Kong.

Temples!
If you never been to an incense temple be sure to check one out. Very peace.
STAIRS!
Be ready. But there are railings and you can stop at any time. It does get steep but take your time and you’ll be fine. Just don’t look down. Then when you reach the top, prepare for magic.
Views
You can literally spend the day just walking the grounds here. But be prepared the steps to the top of the Buddha is quite a work out!
Very walkable
Remember to wear comfy shoes, there is a lot to see here.
We will be back!
It was a spiritual place that was perfect for a day trip from the Hong Kong city life.
HK Streets!
Hong Kong streets were crowded and busy. But we always felt safe, even when walking at 3am looking for food cause we were so jet lagged!

Our Hong Kong Hood
This is the area where we stayed for part of our trip. There were lots to do here. We had access to a lot of shops, busses, train stations, and food options.

Hong Kong signage
English friendly!

7/11
We loved it here and would get a lot of cheap snacks to hold us down. The pastry buns were the best!

More snacks!
You can never have enough? The adventurer needs energy to see all the wonderful sights. Especially when you have limited time, like us on a layover.
Our Hostel
Ended up being inside of a mall. It was so trip even finding this place. We had our private bedroom and bathroom but the space was definitely limited. Still, it’s a great option when just looking for a place to sleep because you know you will be outside exploring anyway. We paid about $11/night. And it gave us a true local experience because the rooms were in a neighborhood apartment building. Pretty cool!

Hostel Life
Apartment building we stayed in. When traveling we like to move and live as locals do.
